About Lisa

Lisa Black-Meddings is a History and French teacher who began her teaching career in 1995 at a private school north of PeterboroughON.  She quickly saw the light and moved to the public education system with the Northumberland -Clarington Board of Education.  Lisa became a contract teacher with the Toronto District School Board in 1999, beginning at Stephen Leacock CI.
Her federation leadership roles grew first as Staff Workload Rep and Branch President at Bathurst Heights, Downsview and Albert Campbell CI.
Lisa became Second Negotiator for the Secondary Teachers of Toronto in the 2008-2012 round of bargaining. She was acclaimed to the position of Executive Officer in April 2009 and May 2010. Lisa was appointed Chief Negotiator in September 2011 and continues in that role for the 2014 round of bargaining.

Lisa has experience in negotiations with a difficult employer and is committed to member protection.  She is a strong advocate for the members of District 12 and will continue that commitment at the bargaining table.

Member Protection

As an Executive Officer, I am skilled at protecting and defending our collective agreement, advocating for members, dealing with management, medical       accommodations and ensuring integrity throughout the staffing and surplus process.

I will continue to use my years of experience in collective bargaining and strong advocacy to  protect and  improve your working conditions and  contracts. I have protected workload provisions and class-size caps from being clawed back. I pushed for restored salary-grid movement and improved      staffing protection for newer teachers.

I am actively involved in the new OSSTF Provincial Benefits Plan workgroup. This plan has OSSTF poised to assume administration of all teacher benefits including pay-direct drug cards for members and dramatic improvements to all  aspects of the current coverage.

As your Executive Officer, I protect and defend teachers.
